Dan Pal is a Film Professor at DePaul University in Chicago, Film Critic, Director, Screenwriter, Producer, & Festival Programmer.
A member of the Chicago Indie Film Critics, Dan has had regular spots as film critic on WDCB in Glen Ellyn, IL, Que4radio.com in Chicago, and AMovieGuy.com.
He has written, directed, & produced the Scotty & Josh Trilogy of short films. He also directed the award-winning short Counting. Recently Dan produced and directed the documentary Harriet & Her Husbands (2020) and produced the Nilles & Jake feature Itchy Fingers (2020.)
Dan has also served as Documentary Features Programmer for Reeling: Chicago's LGBTQ+ Film Festival in 2023. He has also pre-screened films for the Chicago International Film Festival, coordinated the student film festival at Moraine Valley Community College, and served as Festival Programmer for the Pride Film Festival in Chicago.
Dan has over 25 years of teaching experience. In addition to his 15+ years at DePaul University in Chicago he received an Outstanding Part-time Faculty award at the College of Du Page and Adjunct Professor of the Year at Moraine Valley Community College. He has taught such courses as Film Appreciation, History of Film, Foundations of Television, The Big Picture: The Entertainment Industry, Film Philosophy, Screenwriting, Television Genres, Classical Hollywood Film Structure, and special topics courses on: Alfred Hitchcock, Woody Allen, The Coen Brothers, Paul Thomas Anderson, Richard Linklater, and LGBT Films.
